BIOGRAPHY
Somar Yahya
I'm an audio-visual design student at Willem De Kooning Academy, I started my path in art in the age of thirteen, I started drawing graffiti on papers and walls. when I was eighteen I studied graphic design at Grafisch Lyceum Utrecht design school, in that period I started experimenting with digital art, mixed media art, motion design and film. After two years I switched to audio-visual design at Willem De Kooning art school, because I wanted to expand my knowledge and get more involved inside the art community.
In my three years at Willem De Kooning, I learned a lot about film and conceptual art, I used many different techniques for each assignment, for example: hybrid films, spray-painted stop-motion, green screen, analog animation, digital animation... To learn as much as possible and discover my artistic interests.
I have a big interest in animation and I would like to study it after I finish my degree in audio visual design. But currently, I’m taking a break from doing stuff with my hands, so I focus more on filming, camera techniques, editing, cinematography and storytelling.
Generally I'm interested in visual storytelling in all its forms, my preference is to address personal emotions and experiences, and to tell others personal stories that reflect bigger social issues, in a creative and beautiful way.
